The Story Phil Ryan leaves his position of sheriff to accept a position of captain in the Denton County Sheriff's Office. His salary will go from $45,000 to $72,000.

The Spin And the average teacher pay in Wise County is $36,578.

The Story Eighteen oil and gas wells are currently being drilled on the National Grasslands. Authorization to drill comes from the Department of the Interior.

The Story Republican County chairman D.A. Sharpe criticizes Democrats who claim they will vote in the Republican primary in an effort to have the "weakest" candidate win and thereby be on the November ballot.

The Spin That "weakest candidate" stuff is just a ruse. It's about mental health. Do you know how emotionally draining it is to be forced to talk to a white haired Democratic voting precinct judge because you're the first person she has seen in two hours?

The Story H.D. Boswell proves he hasn't lost any of his spunk in 2004 by buying a full page ad in the Messenger and printing all the names and addresses of those that contributed to the DISD Campaign Committee in order to have the last bond election passed.

The Spin To his credit, that is one odd list of names.  Only four folks from Decatur out of the list of forty?  And thirty-seven of them gave exactly $100? Did we miss a fund raiser in Collin County or something?

The Story Wise Regional Health System directors  hear about funding options for "the new replacement hospital [which] is expected to cost about $54 million."
