For the week ending 1/22/05:

The Story A Wise County jury sends a plaintiff home with no cash after the Denton Community Medical Center is sued for alleged medical malpractice.
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ***
The Spin Republicans now make up the majority of Wise County residents. Republicans love tort reform. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.

The Story The Bridgeport ISD begins to raise objections to the use of the high school by Grace Fellowship Church.
News worthiness **
The Spin Government and Church are always a very messy combination.

The Story The Decatur Hospital lands a contract with a helicopter service to provide emergency care. "The service will not cost the county or the hospital any money. The hospital will provide rooms for the helicopter crews and the use of their helipad."  The contract requires the company to be the first one notified in case of a need for a helicopter.
News worthiness **
The Spin "Hey, if we can make money off the deal, we'll always be around and available - If this is a bust, we might be a little hard to find".

The Story The City of New Fairview receives a sales tax rebate check for $18,965. Last year's check was $782. City officials expressed curiosity over whether there was some mistake. (Once the State mistakenly sent a similar check for $5,000 that had to be repaid).

The Spin Obviously an error - and doesn't that make you feel like you tax dollars are being used carefully and prudently.

The Story Wise County Republican Chairman D.A. Sharpe goes to Washington for the inaugural event this week. "You were kind of looked at as an oddball [at the Black Tie and Boots Ball] if you weren't wearing cowboy boots," he said.

The Spin Coincidentally, you were also looked upon as an oddball by the group if you expressed concern for civil rights or the poor.
