For the week ending 1/31/04:
The Story In a public hearing regarding the new  jail, one citizen criticized the commissioner's for spending so much. "If we didn't have to build such elaborate jails, [the prisoners] might not want to get in there."
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) **
The Spin Hey, The Mansion in Dallas is pretty nice but its guest list would be pretty small if they couldn't control the checkout date.

The Story Wise County enters into a new Drug Task Force led by DPS to lock up more folks as the War on Drugs continues.

The Spin Maybe $10 million for a new jail won't be enough.

The Story The Wise County United Way falls $30,000 short of its goal.  The president of the organization stated that "it every resident of the county would give just $5 or $10, we could make our goal".

The Story The Messenger's weekend edition has an "above the fold" front page article by syndicated columnist Dave McNeely entitled "Perry may push video lottery, cigarette tax"

The Story It has nothing to do with Wise County, but the halftime show at the Super Bowl caused a major stop down at The Spin's home.
