A tongue in cheek review of the news published this week regarding Wise County.
Normally posted every Sunday around 6:00 p.m.

For the week ending 3/4/00:

The Story The Messenger goes health conscious crazy: Three stories on Decatur Community Hospital's new Wellness and Rehab Center, one article on "Fad Diets", and yet another article on teenage dieting.
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) *
The Spin The paper must feel guilty about its recent "Best Of" issue which included categories of Best Chicken Fried Steak, Best Hamburger, Best Hot Rolls, and Best Bucket of Butter.

The Story After a deputy with the Sheriff's Office is arrested because of an alleged fight at a private party, he is immediately terminated pursuant to a zero tolerance policy.
News worthiness ***
The Spin How would you have like to have been the deputy that made the arrest knowing that such action would probably cost his colleague his job?

The Story In announcing the Kelly Miller circus is coming to town, the Bridgeport Index writes, in a front page story, that "Featured acts include Captain Eddie Steeples and Billie Jo, his lovable champanzee".
News worthiness *
The Spin The Spin is not against loving circus characters, but what in the heck is a champanzee?

The Story The Messenger publishes a front page photo of assistant middle school principal Chris Smith after he received a pie in the face from students as a reward for their work on a fund raiser.
News worthiness **
The Spin Funny: Black and white episode of Moe hitting Larry with a whipped cream pie as Curly watches. Not Funny: Very large color close up of a face after being hit with real pie.  Also, The Spin wasn't exactly sure what it was seeing when it picked up the paper since the photo is situated next to a headline of "Shooting sends one to hospital, one to jail".

The Story Two letters to the editor criticize County Attorney Todd Durden for sending a letter to the City of Boyd demanding $50,000 for comments made about him in a city council meeting.
News worthiness ****
The Spin (1) The letter from Jack County Attorney Michael Mask is pretty funny for a man who may be the most uptight individual in North Central Texas, (2) The letter from A.J. Stephens is the front runner for "Letter of the Year" award.

The Story Early voting shows 129 Republicans have cast ballots while Democrats trail with  90.
News worthiness ****
The Spin Has Wise "This is a Democratic" County ever had a March primary where Republican voters surpassed Democratic voters?
