This Week's Overall Newsiness Rating: ***

The Story A "several million dollar" Formula One race track is announced for the Slidell area off of FM 51 that "should be completed by September."   The new owners said the area would be "easily assessable."
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ****
The Spin Can I see a show of hands of all those skeptical about this deal?

The Story A nice editorial in the Messenger reviews the life of Ann Eison who died after the briefest of battles with cancer.
News worthiness **
The Spin This story was proof of our county's still rural status. No matter how many elections, car wrecks, bond issues, race track announcements, etc.  took place, I was stopped several times over the last two weeks to be asked "Have you heard about Ann Eison?" I tragic, tragic story. Life is short.

The Spin Ken Hughes, who is becoming our favorite Letter to the Editor writer (he last lamented over the Unisex bathroom at Lowe's) writes another one - this time ranting about the selection of "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" being honored with an Oscar this week for Best Song. He wrote, "Folks, it's supposed to hard out here for a pimp! . . . I may never go to a movie again . . . ."
News worthiness **
The Spin That comment was so offensive. I'm starting a Wise County chapter of People For The Ethical Treatment of Pimps. Our first meeting will be Wednesday at Frilly's karoke night - Women get in free.

The Spin County elections come and go with Bill McElhaney of Bridgeport upsetting Dick Chase for the job of County Judge by 81 votes. A great Messenger photo caught both candidates sharing a laugh after the results were announced.
News worthiness ****
The Spin
Although there are rumors of confusing butterfly ballots, purging of Hispanics from voting rolls,  and Katherine Harris seen lurking around the Keystone Light section of One Stop in Runaway Bay on election day.

The Spin Bridgeport police make two separate drug arrests. These two sentences appear in the same story: (1) "Narcotics officers had been watching [Lelly Renee Womack's] house . . .  and her car was spotted nearby. Her car was stopped for traffic violations on 16th Street and . . . crystal methamphetamine [was found]."; (2) After receiving a tip that drugs were being sold outside of Allsups, police see a "a vehicle with about five people inside leaving the store. The car was stopped on a traffic violation and methamphetamine was found the Jeremy Christopher Craven."
News worthiness ***
The Spin Moral to the story: When there is not a reasonable suspicion to stop a car, methamphetamine in that vehicle will some how make that vehicle magically drive poorly thereby allowing the police to legally stop it.

The Spin Three people are arrested for burglarizing AC's Beer Barn in Decatur. Taken in the burglary were (and we are not making this up): $60, two six packs, and some cigars.
News worthiness ***
The Spin What do you get when you cross Ocean's Eleven with "beer run"?
