For the week ending 4/8/06:
This Week's Overall Newsiness Rating: **

The Story The "lone finalist" for the Bridgeport ISD Superintendent job, Steve Williams, withdrew his name for consideration.  He won't say why. The school board members won't say why. We don't know why.
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ***
The Spin The Da Vinci Code was easier to figure out.

The Story Sharon Wilson and Dan Mooney, Jr. are duking it out in Letters to the Editor over the never controversial subject of abortion. In one letter, Mooney wrote that Martin Luther had said, "Beer is proof that God wanted humankind to be happy."
News worthiness *
The Spin We thought it was odd that Martin Luther would make a quip about beer. Hmmm, he didn't.

The Spin A man  "advanced near" (I think in a car, but I'm not sure) a group of children at Rann Elementary but was contacted by a teacher instead. He claimed to have found a backpack and was trying to return it to its "rightful owner." Although instructed to take the backpack to the main office, he left instead. That prompted school officials to send home with each student a letter about the incident.
News worthiness **
The Spin
Probably a lot to do about nothing, but this was handled well.  You can't ignore it in this day and time.

The Spin A Balsora man was sentenced to eight years in prison for felony DWI (a DWI with at least two prior DWI convictions). Records showed that this arrest was his sixth for DWI.  The papers reported he would be eligible for parole after two years.
News worthiness ***
The Spin Actually it is quicker than that. He becomes eligible once his actual time plus good conduct time equals two years. That should get everybody's blood boiling.

The Spin Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes, a steak place that is going in where Matties used to be, seeks a permit to serve beer and wine. The owner told the Planning and Zoning Commission that he had already invested "several hundreds of thousands of dollars" in the new Decatur venture.
News worthiness **
The Spin Several hundred of thousands? What's a steak going to be priced at to recover that investment? $75.00.

The Spin An email contribution.
News worthiness **
The Spin "W.C. Messenger 4/9/06 under 'Our View' . . .  chastises people who do not live in Decatur for writing letters to the editor criticizing actions of the Decatur I.S.D. and the Decatur city council. Then [the article] proceeds to instruct the Bridgeport school board on how to hire a school superintendent. "
