For the week ending 4/13/01:

The Story Decatur Police Officer Robert Davis, who has been on paid administrative leave since November, asked the Decatur City Council to resolve the reason for his suspension.  In reply, he was told that the city "will get back to you".

The Spin His request seems reasonable to us. Either cut him loose (and tell the taxpayers why) or reinstate him and clear his name.

The Story The City of New Fairview gets back to business as dozens of residents show up to complain about the state of gravel roads. The roads had previously been the responsibility of the county until the city became incorporated.  Despite having $40,000 in the bank, a motion to fix two roads at a cost of $5,000 was voted down 3-2 by the city council.

The Story Due to redistricting, Wise County will lose State Senator David Sibley and instead will come under the auspices of Senator Tom Haywood of Wichita Falls

The Spin Haywood introduced 32 pieces of legislation this term concerning such pertinent subjects as Midwestern State University, Castro County, Camp Howze, and a county court at law in Wichita County.  Government has blessed us again.

The Story A 52 year old Chico man apparently committed suicide on Tuesday by the use of a .38 caliber handgun.

The Story The city council of Boyd tables a request from a a proposed video arcade to receive a specific use permit. "I don't see a place like it being a place for kids," said councilman R.E. Hamm. "Arcades and pool halls become places for drinking and pot smoking. This council will not tolerate that," said Mayor Pro Tem Ray Jordan.

The Spin Come to think about it, you do see a lot of twelve year olds smoking dope and drinking beer while playing Donkey Kong.
