For the week ending 4/20/01:

The Story A massive wreck involving three big rigs on Highway 380 shuts down the roadway for a half of a day last Tuesday.
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ****
The Spin As certain as Mississippi voters will never get rid of the stars and bars, there will continue to be loss of life on 380 on a weekly basis.

The Story The Decatur ISD warns of an impending financial crisis once it learned that the State will cut back its annual financial assistance from $7.4 million to $6.7 million.
News worthiness ***
The Spin Translation: Get out your checkbooks.

The Story Decatur ISD also announces that overcrowding is, and will be, a problem in that three of its five campuses are virtually full.
News worthiness **
The Spin The Spin was saddened to see that, unlike the past, not one government official pointed his finger at mobile home parks for the crowding problem. (This lack of material is frustrating).

The Story Bridgeport Police Officer Brian Tyner is awarded, by the city, the Medal of Valor for his heroism in rescuing a man from a burning car in Fort Worth. (Sidenote: The rescued man died a couple of days later).
News worthiness  **
The Spin Random thought: When exactly did Bridgeport begin awarding a "Medal of Valor" and has anyone else received one?

The Story The Wise County Sheriff's Office allows web surfers to check for the existence of  outstanding arrest warrants via its web site.
News worthiness **
The Spin No one can resist the urge to run a check on a few buddies and/or themselves. (We dare you to refrain).
