For the week ending 5/17/03:

The Story Wise County average home prices, at least according to the appraisal district, rise by almost 10%.

The Spin If the tax rate were to go up 10% of year, we would all revolt. Yet the same thing happens by reappraisals every year.

The Story The number of mobile homes brought into the county last year rose to 1,092 compared to 540 the year before.

The Story State Democrats head to Oklahoma in order to avoid a vote on congressional redistricting.

The Story In routine county business, the commissioners opened bids for roof repair on the courthouse. "The bids ranged from $28,750 by Eagle Mountain Roofing of Azle to $180,000 by Housing Associates of Chico."

The Spin Somebody would do very poorly on The Price is Right.

The Story A (now) 22 year old Bridgeport man receives 30 years in prison from a Wise County jury for sex with a 13 year old, a 12 year old, and another girl "under 14".  The case was prosecuted by the Wise County District Attorney's office.

The Spin Ironically, a vicious letter to the editor in the same Messenger criticized the DA "for not doing her job".
