For the week ending 5/26/01:

The Story Eight Decatur teenagers are arrested for felony aggravated assault and felony criminal mischief after a brouhaha breaks out in a field near Decatur with four Era men.
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ****
The Spin Did you take note that (1) all of the Era men declined to even go to the hospital after the incident, and (2) one of them, 19 year old Jeffrey Stevens, was arrested as well. Despite none of the boys having been convicted or a grand jury even looking at the case, they will not be allowed to take part in commencement exercises.

The Story Michael Zang sets a world sky diving record in Wise County by jumping out of an airplane 500 times in less than 24 hours.
News worthiness **
The Spin For those of you that saw the TV footage of this, didn't it make you just a little uncomfortable seeing the man land and then stagger towards the plane as it barely stopped before lifting off again?

The Story Bridgeport varsity baseball coach Jeff Thompson resigned after he and the athletic director "came to an agreement" that it was time to find a replacement.
News worthiness  *
The Spin So how bad was his record? The team went 12-11 this year after going 14-8 the year before.

The Story William Jefferson Green, 60, of Fort Worth died on May 22, 2001.
News worthiness ***
The Spin His obituary did not mention that he was preceded in death by one of his sons and one of Wise County's most famous residents, Ricky Lee Green.

The Story The Messenger began running "Decatur Police Department Briefs".
News worthiness **
The Spin Our winner for the "Most Intriguing Entry" is: "Leaven Culvert, 29, of Decatur reported someone had cut her wedding dress and thrown a rock through the windshield of her 1995 Nissan."  The story didn't clarify whether the "cutting" involved the shortening of the hem line or the creation of a plunging neck line.
