This Week's Overall Newsiness Still Slow

The Story The volunteer fire departments say they need a big bag of money, the commissioners say they don't have a big bag of money, and a former commissioner who is also a volunteer firefighter says, oh yes, there is a big bag of money.
News worthiness ***
The Spin Then someone mentioned  "Road and Bridge Funds" and everyone got Tired Head.

The Story Rhome is all torqued up about a remark that city council member Patti Robison made during a meeting that Fire Chief David Wood "did not have a GED and should not be fire chief."  After she failed to apologize, Wood said "it's far from over."

The Spin This will have to get ratcheted up into some serious name calling before it will get interesting.

The Story Messenger publisher Roy Eaton writes a rare editorial, but he is in rare form as  he refers to city and county "long term planning committees as "a joke", Karl Rove as "despicable",  and TXDOT engineer Bill Nelson as "certifiably crazy" for not wanting a stop light at the entrance to the new Decatur High School.
News worthiness **
The Spin Ok, he didn't say "certifiably crazy" - but he should have.
The Story Sgt. Bobby Arriola resigns after being arrested in June for public intoxication while at Canyon Lake near New Braunfels. "As a courtesy call, the Comal County Sheriff's Office notified the BPD that it had arrested one of BPD's employees."
News worthiness **
The Spin The Comal County Sheriff's Office will also hold a "Pour Salt in a Person's Wounds" fund raiser this fall.

The Story When questioned about the funding for an animal shelter (the current animal shelter has been threatened with closure by the state health department), County Commissioner Mikel Richardson said, "The animal shelter is SOL – surely out of luck. I don’t think we can budget it."
