A tongue in cheek review of the news published this week regarding Wise County.

For the week ending 8/25/01:

The Story Carole Sanders writes a letter to the editor chewing out a "bubba or good ol'boy" for a broken legged dog that was found on the side of the road. X-rays at the Bridgeport Animal Hospital "determined that yes, it was a gunshot that broke her leg at the elbow and that the slug was still in there."
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) **
The Spin Perhaps the Messenger can include a "Sorriest Act" in its Best Of Wise issue next year.

The Story From Thursday's Update: "EARLY VOTING — Early voting in the local option liquor election for the city of Rhome is under way. Wise County Clerk Sherry Parker said one voter cast a ballot yesterday. Rhome residents can vote early each weekday at the Records Building through Sept. 4."

The Spin Otis Campbell then went and checked himself back into the Wise County Jail.

The Story Northwest ISD spends $1 million to upgrade its football stadium including the installation of a high tech artificial turf called Fieldturf.

The Spin Didn't the Boyd Athletic Department indicate last spring that it didn't have enough money for new poles for the track team's pole vaulters? Maybe the Robin Hood plan isn't such a bad idea after all. 

The Story The city of Decatur  agreed to lower the speed limit on U.S. 380 at the intersection of US 287 from 65 miles per hour  to 55 miles per hour due to then numerous accidents that occur at the site.

The Story Bradley Dean Bulen is arrested for attempted murder after setting the porch of his girlfriend on fire in Bridgeport (even though the fire department apparently was not called and the girlfriend felt safe enough  to call 911 instead of flee).

The Spin Bulen immediately gave notice of his intent to use the ever popular defense of:  "Hey, my girlfriend may not be Brooke Shields but it worked for that guy in the movie Endless Love".
