For the week ending 8/27/05:

The Story As predicted, a fire storm erupts over the discussion of EMS being privatized with Careflight taking over emergency services..
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ***
The Spin I don't think that will happen. It might be a good thing or it might be a bad thing - who knows. But any politician (i.e. the county commissioners) fears a public backlash and every EMS employee who objects to the change will not go silently into the night.  It's just too much of a hot potato.

The Story Ten eight graders in Decatur were taken to the hospital to be checked for heat exhaustion after working out in the heat. Parents, as expected, showed up to chew out the school board (making board members again realize, the job is not worth the trouble).
News worthiness **
The Spin People either think it can be blamed on (1) poor judgment on the teachers or (2) a generation of video gaming of out of shape kids. (The comments on The Blog were all over the place.)  Let's discuss it a town hall meeting followed by a chicken fried steak dinner.

The Story An administrative law judge approves a route for a TXU transmission line that "will cut through populous and economic centers of the county, including the new Decatur Industrial park" much to the anger of almost every local official.  The only way to stop it will be legislative intervention led by local Rep. Phil King and Sen. Craig Estes.
News worthiness ***
The Spin But they must first be reminded that the do, in fact, represent Wise County.

The Story TxDot announces plans for a major reconstruction of highway 380 from the Wise County Line to the Krum exist, the reconstruction of 1810 from 287  westward for six miles is set to begin in the next month, the expansion of  380 between Decatur and Bridgeport is in high gear, and construction of 114 between Rhome and the county line continues.
News worthiness **
The Spin And no one will be able to afford to drive on the new roads due to gas prices. (Oil futures, at the time of this writing, are up $4 a barrel to over $70 a barrel).

The Spin The big music companies launch another wave of lawsuits over alleged illegal music downloading and named Virginia Burdell of Bridgeport as one of 10 North Texas defendants.
News worthiness **
The Spin "We were tipped off due to an excessive amount of downloads of two types of music: County and Western. At that point, we decided to expand our investigation into the boondocks," said a fictitious press release.
