For the week ending 09/13/02:

The Story Rhome gets a new police chief and sets a budget for the police force. "The [municipal] court is hoping to raise $220,000 in court fines which would provide $90,309 to transfer back into the police department."
News worthiness  (on a scale of 0 to 5) **
The Spin We have a police department motivated by a budget which depends on the number of tickets written? Just when we thought it was safe to go to Fort Worth.

The Story An apparent rift has developed on the Boyd School Board with Dennis Tidwell, David Deaton, Mike Rawlings and Pam Galloway on one side and Sheril Rogers-Tidwell, Minor Hopkins and Winston Dennis on the other. When Rogers-Tidwell made a comment that was ruled out of order, she replied "Ooh, I'm going to try to be out of order for every meeting."

The Spin Let No Child Be Left Behind.

The Story The Boyd School Board also had to listen to Wesley Wade who has a daughter that was kicked off the cheerleading squad. The Messenger described it at a "rambling, 30-minute defense of his daughter". "[She is] no angel," he said, "but she does not cuss."
News worthiness *
The Spin Do you think anytime during that 30 minutes that any of the board members wanted to rethink why they wanted the job in the first place?

The Story This pretty interesting tidbit in a story about Wise County's only taxi cab driver Gracie DeLay. On March 23, 1999 a passenger asked her "What makes you think I'm not going to rape you and slit your throat?" She later identified the man as Angel Maturino Resendiz aka "The Railroad Killer".

The Spin Welcome to HBO's Really Creepy Taxicab Confessions

The Story The overly active North Central Texas Narcotics Task Force arrested Delmarie Saxon, 21, of Alvord when they found 86 marijuana plants growing at her home.
News worthiness *
The Spin Does anyone else see the dichotomy of a winery in Alvord being lauded as a great county asset while some kid growing pot ends up in jail?  If she had labeled the joints with a cute French name and advertised that they go great with Chilean Sea Bass, then maybe we would let her out of the crossbar motel.
