For the week ending 11/02/02:

The Story Tax Collector-Assessor Pat Younger and attorney Steve Meeks wage a public battle over whether the lawyer's firm is adequately collecting back taxes for the county. Meeks claims that part of Younger's criticism is because "we sued Pat's nephew". Younger responded in a written editorial that "I could have attacked his integrity but chose not to."

The Story The Messenger runs an article on Dingo, the drug sniffing dog of the Decatur Police Department, who is  handled by officer Andy Anderson. "When he sees me in uniform [getting ready for work], he knows he's going to get to go bite people," Anderson said.

The Story The First United Methodist Church in Decatur breaks ground on a $1.2 million addition.

The Spin The Baptists immediatley placed an emergency call to an architect wanting to know what $1.3 million would buy.

The Story State Rep. hopeful Mack Dobbs goes after incumbent Phil King with an ad that claims King, a lawyer, represented a convicted felon "who had stolen $30 million from innocent investors" before the parole board. The ad pointed out "he votes on  . . . " the budget of the Board and gained the man an early release.

The Story A man working late at night at the courthouse claims to have seen an elderly gentleman who could not have possibly had access to the locked doors. Thinking it might be the ghost of the deceased architect of the courthouse, law enforcement plans on showing the witness the architect's photograph on the chance that he might identify him.
