For the week ending 11/19/05:

The Story The County agrees to offer Judge Cude $100,000 to settle his claim of back pay.
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) *
The Spin What's this? He's been demonized for asking for money that the county decides he is rightfully owed? Give him a break. This is a non-story.

The Story It's a very slow news week.  So I have to fill space by pointing out, once again, how the Messenger never gets any flack for running editorial cartoons that seem (heaven forbid) liberal. The most recent one compares Bush to Clinton.
News worthiness *
The Spin Not that I disagree with the cartoons.  (As I mix The Spin and The Blog for the first time by allowing comments here).

The Story "Road rage drives shooting incident".  (Sunday's Messenger, Front Page).
News worthiness ***
The Spin The story is way too complicated to summarize and I'm still not sure I understand it.  Suffice it to say: People, calm down. You don't have to bow up to every little thing that makes you upset.

The Spin Two  Wise Cunty teenagers are arrested for allegedly robbing a bait shop in Montague county. The owner of the shop is 63 years old and "handicapped".
News worthiness ***
The Spin Hey, boys, next time try to find a less sympathetic victim! (Although a completely different thought just crossed my mind: Did Romeo and Juliet involve a battle of the Capulets and the Montagues with the latter name prounouced the way we say it?)

The Spin Assistant DA Allen (not "Alan") Williamson decides to go into private practice and receives a  glowing review in the "Inside Wise" section of the Messenger.
News worthiness **
The Spin Let it be known that Mr. Williamson constantly advises me that The Spin "wasn't very funny this week" - and this week he is probably right..  (But he is an all around good guy and he will be missed in the DA's office. He gets The Spin's first ever "shout out".)

See something in the local papers that struck you funny?  Then suggest a topic for The Spin.
