For the week ending 1/26/02:

The Story Keller ISD fails in its bid to lure Bridgeport coach Danny Henson away from the Bulls. Claiming money was not at issue, Henson said, "There were a few things I felt like I needed to get in order to make the move, and some of those were things they didn't feel like they could do."
News worthiness  (on a scale of 0 to 5) **
The Spin No, they will not kidnap All-State quarterback Phillip Daugherty and give him a new identity in Keller.

The Story Messenger sports reporter Mitch Word gets miffed when he gets high toned by Northwest ISD. Corky Criswell, "executive director for human resources", told Word to go through "the public information officer" if he wants to know the status of the job search for the Athletic Director.
News worthiness ***
The Spin It sounds like they have a few too many employees in NISD.

The Story Wise County's bid to obtain a grant to restore the county courthouse fails for the third time.
News worthiness *
The Spin In all seriousness, the courthouse should be restored to its original floor plan and turned into a museum.

The Story Letter to the Editor writer H.D. Boswell blasts the fact that the new Decatur city park will not have a swimming pool. "Any, who cares," he sarcastically writes. "All of us 'rich, white folks' can swim at the fitness center."
News worthiness *
The Spin Even without the fitness center, I don't think you would see the Decatur upper crust rubbing elbows at a city pool.

The Story DPS will purchase 144 radar detectors this year at a cost of $1,500 a piece. Note: these aren't devices that determine whether someone is speeding (i.e. radar guns), instead they are devices used to detect "radar detectors" that might be in traveling vehicles. (DPS claims they will only target commercial vehicles).
News worthiness  **
The Spin That is $216,000 of your hard earned tax dollars. (Of course, can we get rich by inventing a device that will detect the radar detecting detectors?)
