For the week ending 2/19/05:

The Story Devon chooses to occupy a new 48,000 square foot office building in Bridgeport to be purchased by the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation. The price of the building was estimated at $2.4 million to $4.8 million. Devon will rent the building for at least 10 years but will receive  a "$2,500 per month discount" on the rent during that time.

The Spin  And they need the money. Net income for 2004 was only $2.2 billion.

The Story Devon  is recognized at a banquet for being the largest contributor to the Wise County United Way.

The Story The Runaway Bay City Council gets a little peeved with its mayor, Tyce Simmons, for approving partial payment for aerial photos of the town without approval.  When the council suggested that they approve all bills before being paid, the mayor said "Y'all can come up here and write every damn check."

The Spin What he meant to say was "If the council is desirous of pre-approving all municipal expenditures, the mayor welcomes the council to execute, in furtherance of this endeavor, all negotiable instruments without regard to whether those instruments are, in fact, damned."

The Story An article runs regarding the dangers of teenagers and the Internet.

The Spin Not that is happened in Wise County, but did you see the crazy story last week of the Dallas teacher who traveled to Parker County to meet who he thought was a fourteen year old girl?

The Story Bridgeport's downtown area will probably be converted from four lanes to two lanes with diagonal parking instead of parallel parking.

The Spin "Well, finally!" said one long time Bridgeport resident. "Ever since I hit that pole trying to parallel park during my driving test, I've been plum scared out of my mind to try and park downtown. Finally, I can put to bed that demon memory of that trooper shaking his head at me like I was a danged idiot."
