The Story The preliminary tax evaluations by the Wise County Appraisal District are in and, guess what, they are higher.

The Spin How is it that it costs several hundred dollars to have your home appraised, yet every year the government is able to do it without even walking in the door?

The Story A new magazine insert called Relish ("We celebrate America's love of food everyday") is being inserted in the mid-week edition of the Messenger.

The Story There is some controversy over the certifications and commissions of police officers of the Rhome Police Department causing the district attorney to say, "I certainly don't have any confidence in the Rhome Police Department."

The Story The Messenger urges the City of Decatur to spend money on the old post office - up to $500,000 - to make it useable.

The Spin And the fact that the empty building sits directly across from the Messenger office has no impact on that opinion.

The Story Grace Fellowship plans a new $4.3 million building near Paradise. The church's pastor, in discussing plans for the church, said "he hopes that [the] ministry can have chili cook-offs and invite NASCAR drivers."

The Spin Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., after initially expressing confusion, immediately rejected the offer claiming they will be focusing "on the poor and the afflicted" in their spare time.
