The Story | Former sheriff Leroy Burch, who
made headlines in the early 1990s for his federal trial and conviction,
dies at age 51. |
News worthiness | *** |
The Spin | Despite full write ups in
the Messenger and the Star-Telegram, we have yet to hear
what he died of. |
The Story | On to more criminal allegations:
The trial of Rebecca Simpson of Bridgeport is scheduled for Monday in
Tarrant County although she is "one of 42 defendants listed on the
trial docket." |
News worthiness | *** |
The Spin | How would you sleep if your
chances of facing a jury were 1 in 42? Probably about as well as if
your chances were 1 in 1. |
The Story | More criminal news: former
Economic Development Corporation of Bridgeport, Allan Smith, pled
guilty to possession of child pornography. The Messenger headline was "Prison for
kiddie porn user." |

The Spin | Kiddie porn user? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew. |
The Story | One school in Wise County, the
Decatur Intermediate school, was flagged for suspicious activity in
connection with the TAKS test. The activity referred to a "high number
of eraser marks". |

The Spin | So this tells us what? The
kids changed their minds a lot? The teachers went back and changed the
papers after the kids have left? That Decatur kids have good erasers on
their pencils and couldn't resist using them? You'll be pleased to
learn that a half million of your tax dollars were spent on this state
wide audit by a private consulting firm. |
The Story | In
a very odd story about a possible fake cop, a woman claims that she was
stopped for speeding on 287 by a vehicle with "emergency lights". She
was then handcuffed and the the officer "touch[ed] her all over her
body" before she was released with a warning. |

The Spin | I think I saw that on
Cinemax late last night. |
