For the week ending 9/3/05:

The Story Hurricane Katrina causes a disaster and Wise County considers accepting some refugees. One possibility is the LBJ National Grasslands. District Ranger Jim Crooks said "It would be like a [wildfire] camp. They would bring in food trailers and shower units. basically it would be a tent city."
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) ****
The Spin Uh, it's still 100 degrees out there. Let's help them, not kill them.

The Story Wise County gas prices edge near $3.00 a gallon.
News worthiness ***
The Spin In all seriousness, this is good news for local merchants. Shopping in Dallas and Fort Worth doesn't seem all that attractive all of a sudden.

The Story Decatur High Schools "sells out" its personalized parking spots with 54 of the them going for $100 a pop. Those lucky (an affluent) kids get to paint their spots in any manner they wish so long as they don't violate an unknown standard of decency.
News worthiness *
The Spin There has to be at least one wise guy kid who will consider the following paint job themes: (1) "The principal should be fired", (2) "I bet George Bush couldn't pass the TAKS test", or (3)  "The official religion of DHS is Islam".

The Story Our eyes glazed over at the number of Letters to the Editor supporting EMS as the county commissioners decide whether to enact a scorched earth policy by hiring Careflight to replace EMS.  Our favorite letter came from Deb Allen of Bridgeport who wrote "To my knowledge, the current commissioners haven't ever had to go try to glue a child's body and brains back together, with parent screaming in the background . . . . "
News worthiness *
The Spin Yeah! I bet Careflight doesn't even stock glue!

The Spin In the revived Athlete Spotlight section, Paradise football player Matt Davis reveals a curious tendency that must have some purpose.
