For the week ending 9/6/03:

The Story The Commissioners' Court receives high praise from the public for lowering the county's tax rate.
News worthiness  (on a scale of 0 to 5) **
The Spin No Spin about this - we're pleased, too. Now if we could just get them to handle this little federal problem

The Story County Judge Dick Chase turns down a $10,000 check from the state that he is entitled to for being available to handle judicial duties when other judges are not available.
News worthiness ***
The Spin Mark it down: We have a "No Big Government" Republican acting like one. Our only complaint is that this should have been front page news.

The Story The Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission tries to crack down on potential tattoo parlors by charging annual fees. The problem is that there are some "cosmetic tattooing" that would also be subject to the fee so the P&Z had to argue about the difference between the two.
News worthiness *
The Spin The difference is that the P&Z doesn't like tattoo parlors.

The Story In other P&Z news, rumors of a "beer barn" opening up by the Decatur Civic Center had the board scrambling about creating a special zoning district around the Center to prevent it from happening.
News worthiness *
The Spin Now if the Beer Barn could be constructed inside the Convention Center, then it wouldn't be a problem

The Story Former Chico resident Michele Moore is upset about the way her old town looks these days and voices her displeasure in a letter to the editor. "Not to offend anyone more than I already have, but it really looks trashy," she wrote.
News worthiness *
