For the week ending 10/11/03:

The Story Decatur finally approves a $32.8 million bond package.
News worthiness  (on a scale of 0 to 5) ***
The Spin The Decatur School Board, exuberant about the bond passage and the resurgent Eagle football team, immediately began planning for the next bond election for a domed stadium. "Heck, we're on a roll - I bet we could pull it off as long as we promise that H.D. Boswell guy an air-conditioned suite."

The Story Decatur's Planning and Zoning Commission votes to restrict land use around the Civic Center so as to keep out a "beer barn".  Some of the beer barn proponents were asked in the meeting "about the possibility of rock haulers stopping off to by a 'six pack' at their business."

The Spin "Yeah, we were gonna offer a buck off a six pack for anyone who wanted to risk their CDL."

The Story The United Way is about $100,000 short of its goal. "Mattie's Restaurant in Decatur has agreed to place a collection jar at its cash register . . . . "

Paradise votes to place a green/yellow/red traffic control signal on highway on 114 where a flashing red light currently exists.

The Spin "I look forward to serving Wise County," a press release read. "I've always seen Decatur listed on the weather map on the news, and I think those names of 'Cottondale' and 'Boonsville' sound really cute. I plan on being at the next chili cook off or whatever it is you people do out there for fun."
