The Story | A house fire in Chico kills
David and Cindy Horne in a pre-dawn blaze. |
News worthiness (on a scale of 0 to 5) | **** |
The Spin | The story is absolutely horrific and the Messenger's front page photo by Joe Duty (of the bodies being carried out against a backdrop of a raging fire) captures the story in an amazing way. (Although I bet they'll catch some grief over the photo). |
The Story | During this week's ice storm, a
Decatur man allegedly gets into a road rage confrontation and then
flees from officers. The chase included (1) backing up in an attempt to
strike an officer's patrol car, (2) pointed his finger out the window
in a mock shooting motion, (3) striking a patrol vehicle, (4) stricking
a tree, (5) stricking a horse - yep, a horse, and (6) having his tires
shot out by officers. |

The Spin | In a rare scoop, The Spin was able to obtain this
photo taken during the chase. |
The Story | The
Lifestar Helicopter stationed at the Decatur Hospital was grounded last
Monday after one of its doors came open while making a trip between
Bridgeport and the Metroplex. |

The Spin | The child safety lock is
being re-examined. |
The Spin | Also during the ice storm, a small
college basketball team traveling from Lawton, Oklahoma to Marshal
flips over after wrecking on highway 287. The community chipped in to
give the team a place to stay overnight. |
News worthiness | ** |
The Spin | Forget about the wreck.
Forget about the community's charitable attitude. How would you like to
be a small time basketball player that has to ride in a van for 340
miles one way to play in a
basketball game? |
The Spin | Angela Walls of Decatur writes a
Letter to the Editor complaining of numerous men, including two
deputies, that observed her changing a flat tire but did not stop as
they walked into the Whistle Stop Cafe for breakfast. "I guess my idea
of a Southern gentleman was mistaken!" she wrote. |

The Spin | Hmmmm. "Help a Lady Fix a
Flat" vs. "Biscuits and Gravy". I'll get back to you on that one. |
