For the week ending 12/15/01:

The Story A "drug sweep" nets 17 arrests by the North Central Texas Narcotics Task Force. (No Colombian drug lords were among them.)
News worthiness  (on a scale of 0 to 5) **
The Spin Doesn't it seem a bit odd that the Task Force, which is funded by government grants, does a round up of arrests every year and garners a lot of press coverage in doing so? After all, if these arrests had been spaced out over a year, would we really notice?

The Story "A proposed highway loop surrounding Fort Worth could someday run through Rhome and south of Boyd."

The Spin We could have sworn that 380 hasn't even been widened yet.

The Story Wise County Commissioners reject 3/4 of an acre of free land offered by (and next to) the local hospital for the purposes of building an EMS office and ambulance facility. The EMS office will instead be built behind Armando's restaurant.

The Story The Decatur City Council receives an ear full from citizens who complain about how dangerousness of the intersection at FM 1820 and US 287.

The Story A Wise County jury awards over a million dollars to a group of local women who claimed to have been defrauded in their efforts to build a Motel 6.
